Sophon, a zero-knowledge Ethereum layer-2 network built for consumer apps, has set Nov. 25 as the deadline for users to withdraw their assets before it switches off its chain. After that date the team will start shutting down key infrastructure and websites, and anything left on the network may become permanently inaccessible, Cointelegraph reports. Here is what holders need to know.
Mark the two dates
Nov. 25 is the cut-off for withdrawals. According to Sophon's announcement, as relayed by PANews, the mainnet itself is due to close for good on Nov. 30, 2026. Do not wait for the last days: bridges and front ends can get congested, and the team has been clear that assets left behind may be lost.
Move your liquid tokens off the chain
Users are asked to withdraw SOPH, ETH, USDC and any other tokens held on Sophon. New deposits through the official Ethereum bridge have been disabled since June 25, and Sophon was removed from LayerZero then, so SOPH can no longer be bridged that way. The canonical withdrawal route to Ethereum stays open while the chain runs. If bridging is new to you, our explainer on how crypto bridges work covers the risks.
Claim rewards and farm assets
Outstanding staking and Guardian rewards should be claimed through Sophon's official claim portal, and unclaimed Sophon Farm assets have a separate withdrawal page. Sophon's migration docs say Guardian NFTs, vSOPH and staked SOPH are being moved to Ethereum for holders, so those positions should not be migrated by hand.
Use only official links
Shutdowns attract scammers. Sophon has warned users to rely only on its official links and to watch out for fake "migration" sites. Never type a recovery phrase into a website, and double-check addresses before you sign. Our guides on spotting crypto scams and storing crypto safely explain how to protect funds during moves like this.
Know why it is closing
In June, Sophon's developers said the cost of running a standalone blockchain no longer justified the benefits, and that they would focus on consumer finance and AI apps on Base, Coinbase's layer 2. Sophon raised $60 million through a node sale in 2024 after a separate $10 million round, Cointelegraph noted. It is not the only consumer chain bowing out: Abstract, the layer 2 from Pudgy Penguins' parent Igloo, said on Oct. 6 that it will close on Dec. 15 after Igloo lost tens of millions of dollars supporting it.
