Money keeps leaving US spot ether funds: net outflows from the ETFs reached $1.08 billion so far in October, making it the biggest monthly drain of 2026, according to SoSoValue figures reported by Cointelegraph. The funds actually took in $26 million on Tuesday, but that barely dented the month's total.

The numbers

  • Ether ETFs, October to date: −$1.08 billion, the largest monthly outflow since November 2025 — and eight trading days remain.
  • September: +$832 million, now fully reversed.
  • Ether ETFs, year to date: about +$485 million net.
  • Bitcoin ETFs: +$23 million on Tuesday after +$527 million on Monday; about −$67 million for October and roughly +$809 million for 2026.

Monday's bitcoin inflow was the funds' strongest day in nearly a month, as we covered in bitcoin ETFs' $527 million day. The ether picture has been weaker for weeks — see our earlier weekly ETF flow report.

Prices

The outflows have tracked the price. Ether has fallen 9.7% in October, from about $2,700 to $2,438 at the time of Cointelegraph's report, and is down nearly 18% in 2026, based on CoinGecko data. Bitcoin was trading at $82,954, down 2.2% since Oct. 1 and 5.3% year to date. The price snapshot above shows values at the time this site was last built.

Why it matters

ETF flows are one of the clearest public gauges of how traditional investors are positioning, because issuers report holdings daily. A month in which ether funds give back all of the previous month's inflows suggests that institutional demand for ETH exposure has cooled even as bitcoin funds see money trickle back. Flows can turn quickly, though, and a single month says little about the longer trend.
