Cross River Bank, the New Jersey lender that supplies banking infrastructure to fintech companies, is adding Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD to its core platform. The bank announced the partnership on 15 October, saying customers can now reach RLUSD payments through a single API connection without building any blockchain infrastructure of their own.

What Cross River is offering

  • One connection: RLUSD is being integrated into Cross River's proprietary Core Operating System (COS) with support for transactions on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
  • Dollars and stablecoins side by side: fintechs can move between US dollars and RLUSD, settle cross-border payments and treasury transfers around the clock, and still use ACH, wires and real-time payments through the same platform.
  • Card settlement: the companies pitch RLUSD as another settlement option for payment networks, card issuers and acquirers that want to settle within the day.
  • Speed: the release cites XRPL settlement in three to five seconds and says the ledger has settled more than $1.3 trillion in value to date.

"Businesses shouldn't have to rely on several different providers to move money across the globe," said Adam Goller, Cross River's head of fintech banking. Markus Infanger, senior vice president of RippleX, described the move as making stablecoins part of "the banking infrastructure businesses already use."

The fine print

Cross River says its services are currently available only in limited US states, which it did not name. The announcement gave no customer names, transaction volumes or rollout schedule. It extends a stablecoin-payments offering the bank first announced in November 2025.

It is also worth separating the assets: RLUSD is a dollar stablecoin issued by Ripple, while XRP is the XRP Ledger's native token. The announcement does not describe any role for XRP in customer transfers. RLUSD's market capitalisation stood at about $2.4 billion on 16 October, according to CoinGecko data cited by CryptoSlate.

Context

Ripple has been pushing RLUSD through regulated banks: earlier this week Standard Chartered began offering RLUSD custody in Dubai. Payment giants are moving the same way, with Visa taking USDC prefunding live. For the basics of dollar tokens, read what is a stablecoin.
