Bitcoin bounces back toward $82,000 after a two-hour dip below $80,000

Bitcoin's slip below $80,000 lasted only about two hours: after touching roughly $79,800 on Thursday, it climbed back near $82,500 and was up about 1.3% near $82,000 during Friday's Asian session, CoinDesk reported.

What moved

  • Bitcoin: the drop cut through the ~$80,400 level that buyers had defended twice in the past week — and that is where demand reappeared. BTC then held above $81,000 through Asian hours.
  • Altcoins: Zcash (ZEC) led the majors with a jump of about 8% to roughly $1,190. SOL, ether, XRP and TRX each added around 1%, while BNB was flat, according to CoinDesk data.

Stocks and bonds

Risk appetite recovered outside crypto too. MSCI's Asia-Pacific equity gauge gained 1.3%, with roughly three stocks rising for every one falling. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix each rose more than 2%, and South Korea's Kospi jumped nearly 3% after Thursday's lowest close since April. TSMC was the exception, slipping despite an upbeat outlook as worries about AI spending lingered.

Treasuries gave back some of Thursday's safe-haven bid, nudging the 10-year yield up one basis point to 5.07%.

What traders are watching

The next macro test is Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, who speaks at the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok on Friday — two days after September U.S. inflation came in hotter than expected. CoinDesk notes that a move back above $84,000, where Wednesday's post-CPI spike faded, would be the sign that this bounce has real buyers behind it.
