Bitcoin gave back a late-Wednesday push toward $85,000 and was trading just under $82,800 on Thursday morning in Asia, even as US spot bitcoin ETFs logged $1.08 billion of inflows in three days, according to CoinDesk. The prices in the snapshot above are from our last build and may differ from live quotes.
The overnight reversal
- BTC broke through $84,000, the level that turned it back on Oct. 13–14, and peaked near $84,800 late Wednesday. Yesterday we covered the push to $84,600 on SpaceX earnings.
- Within about six hours it dropped more than $2,000 to around $82,600, CoinDesk reported. Some analysts warn that a lasting break of $82,500 could open a slide toward $70,000.
- Among majors, ZEC rose almost 3% to about $1,290 and XRP added under 1%. HYPE fell 3% to about $79, DOGE lost 2% and SOL about 1%; ETH, BNB and TRX slipped less than 1%.
Why: tech earnings and AI doubts
Tesla fell 3% after hours as it cut its capital-spending forecast, and Lam Research dropped 7% on a weak outlook. Meta gained 2% after raising AI spending plans, but Nasdaq 100 futures still fell 1.1% and S&P 500 futures 0.5%. In Asia, South Korea's Kospi lost 2.2% and China's CSI 300 1.7%, while oil rose on renewed Middle East tensions.
ETF money is back, just not at rally pace
CoinDesk compared current flows with the three steep bitcoin rallies since the ETFs launched in January 2024:
- Jan.–Mar. 2024: BTC up 79%, inflows averaging about $294 million a day.
- Aug.–Dec. 2024: up 96%, about $202 million a day.
- Apr.–Jul. 2025: up 53%, about $248 million a day.
Across those 199 trading days the funds took in $46.7 billion, roughly $235 million a day. Since July 1, bitcoin is up 39% but inflows have averaged about $86 million a day, with no single $1 billion day. "Flows remain volatile and sustained inflows are needed to confirm a stronger recovery," Giottus CEO Vikram Subburaj told CoinDesk. Futures and direct spot buying can also move the price, so the comparison is a guide, not a rule. If you are weighing a fund against holding coins, see bitcoin ETF vs buying bitcoin.
